Falcons cut Schofield, send Weatherspoon to IR, sign Hawk

The Falcons make roster moves ahead of the upcoming road trip.

The Falcons made the signing of A.J. Hawk official, but the news was accompanied by other news that fans may not be so pleased with. In order to make room on the roster for Hawk, the team decided to cut ties with OLB O’Brien Schofield, who had just recently been re-signed to the team.

To be honest, I’m not sure anyone saw this move coming. Schofield was just brought back and does appear to offer at least a little bit of a pass rush. That’s not insignificant on a team that has failed to consistently pressure the quarterback this season. With other options on the team like Dashon Goldson and Mike Person being inactive every week, the cut of Schofield is a surprising and disappointing one.

At the same time, the team announced that Sean Weatherspoon has officially been put on Injured Reserve. This roster move clears the spot that returning corner Jalen Collins will now occupy. It’s sad to see it in writing, but the move was inevitable.

Additionally, the team opted to waive LB Davis Tull off the practice squad. Punter Michael Palardy was signed to take his place. There’s no indication if Matt Bosher is injured or not, so this is an interesting move worth keeping an eye on.
