The Atlanta Falcons improved to 5-3 with a thrilling 33-32 win over the Green Bay Packers to end a two-game losing skid.
Who’s up and who’s down?
Down six points with 3:58 left on the clock, it was time for Matty Ice to show up. Ryan engineered an 11-play, 75-yard drive that was capped off with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Mohamed Sanu with :36 remaining. He finished the game with 288 yards and three touchdowns on 28 of 35 passing. The MVP season is chugging right along for the Falcons quarterback.
Sanu hadn’t quite lived up to his $32.5 million contract the Falcons signed him to, but he showed up in a big way against the Packers with Julio Jones ailing. He caught nine passes for 84 yards, including the game-winning touchdown. More outings like today are preferred for the receiver.
It was a big day for Clayborn as the defensive end finished with a pair of sacks. More importantly, both of those sacks came on third down. Atlanta’s pass rush has shown signs of life over the past few weeks.
Reed kept the Packers alive on their go-ahead touchdown drive after he casually jogged off the field and wasn’t off when Aaron Rodgers snapped the ball. The penalty bailed out Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson, who picked up a first down and then stepped backwards to be stopped short of the marker.
Atlanta’s strong safety is having a solid year, but he had a rough start to the game. He was victimized by Nelson on a 58-yard bomb on the Packers’ first possession, and he was also flagged for unnecessary roughness.
It’s better to expect Allen here each week as his struggles continue.
