I’m encouraged by the progress the Falcons have made, however modest, on both sides of the ball. Now it’s time to get the team back on track and winning again, so we can feel even better about it.
To do so, they’ll have to go through a strange Packers team. As Allen Strk will outline a little later today, and as DW and Kyle McClendon have and will also discuss, this is not the fearsome Falcons-killing Green Bay team of years past, with their arsenal of wide receivers and opportunistic defense. This Packers team wins up front on defense and just does enough on offense to get by on their best weeks, while on their worst weeks you find yourself wondering if Aaron Rodgers is ever going to look like the once-elite quarterback he was for so very long.
I expect this to be a close game—it is the Falcons—but they could legitimately crush the Packers if they get rolling. We’ll have to hope they do with a little help from Julio Jones and Devonta Freeman, who will shoulder a lot of responsibility this weekend against a team not well-equipped to stop them. We’ll also have to hope the Falcons can stop Rodgers from dinking and dunking them to death, because he will almost certainly look to do it.
