The San Diego Chargers entered the Georgia Dome Sunday and came away with a 33-30 overtime victory over the Atlanta Falcons, despite being down three scores at one point.
Let’s take a look back at the top matchups between the two teams.
Keanu Neal versus Hunter Henry
San Diego’s rookie tight end was riding a three-game streak in which he found the end zone heading the Week 7 game. Things changed drastically when he went up against the Falcons’ top draft pick. Henry finished the game with just one catch for 16 yards, as Neal flashed nice coverage skills when matched up with him. Long-time Charger Antonio Gates had five receptions for 38 yards.
Julio Jones versus San Diego’s secondary
This result wasn’t surprising. Jones is the best receiver in the game and San Diego’s secondary is ailing as their top corner Jason Verrett is out for the season. Jones went off for 174 yards on nine receptions and looked completely uncoverable — unless he was interfered with.
Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman versus San Diego’s defense
Coleman ripped off a 30-yard touchdown run in the second quarter before soon exiting with a hamstring injury. He ended up with 64 rushes on eight attempts and had a catch for 10 yards. Freeman combined for 100 yards (58 rushing, 42 receiving). That’s 174 total yards for Atlanta’s running back duo against a middling Chargers defense.
