The Falcons are fresh off a tough but understandable loss to the Seahawks. They’re home after a two game West Coast swing against a 2-4 team, but it’s a 2-4 team with one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and a long week of rest. Will they win?
I believe they will, and I believe we may be headed for a bit of a shootout. The Chargers have a depleted, mediocre defense that can’t possibly hope to continue both the ground game and Matt Ryan’s merry band of pass catchers, so Atlanta getting less than four scores in this one would be a huge surprise. Similarly, while the Falcons’ defense is getting better, they’ll be hard-pressed to stop Philip Rivers from delivering a good game, given that he is A) the most underrated quarterback in the NFL and B) one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, with speedy Travis Benjamin and emerging stud tight end Hunter Henry to reel in targets.
If you’re asking me if San Diego has enough firepower and defense to overcome a Falcons team that is playing at home and super motivated after that Seattle loss...I’d say nah. But it should be a more interesting game than the Chargers’ record would indicate, at the very least.
I’ve got the Falcons by a score of 35-27. How about you?
