Falcons vs. Panthers 2016: Who to watch as Falcons fight for strong NFC South lead

New, comments

Who we've got our eye on as the Falcons take on the SECOND PLACE Carolina Panthers.

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Week four brings Atlanta its toughest task of the 2016 season thus far. Here's who you should be watching as the Falcons try to build a lead in the NFC South.

Matt Ryan, Quarterback

This is always an easy choice, but week four will be the first time that the Falcons will be facing off with a team that has a top ten defense (No. 3). This season, Ryan has torched opponents with solid protection and good distribution. Let's hope that these luxuries won't disappear with a talented defense coming into town.

Taylor Gabriel, Wide Receiver

Julio Jones and Mohamed Sanu are both expected to be good to go, but if they're going to take some plays off, look for Taylor Gabriel to fill in for more than you'd expect. Last week, Gabriel saw 36 snaps on offense -- beating Hardy's 21 and Robinson's 17. He likely won't have a very large impact, but this trend is something to keep an eye on going forward.

Matt Bryant, Kicker

If Atlanta happens to win this game, I fully expect it to be a close one. The Panthers' defense is a much more difficult task than Oakland or New Orleans. If Carolina comes out playing strong defense, it could be up to "Money" Matt Bryant to nail a couple key field goals.
