Falcons vs. Chargers: What to know for Week 7

New, comments

The 4-2 Atlanta Falcons are homeward bound to face the 2-4 San Diego Chargers, one of the toughest lousy teams in the NFL this year.

Atlanta Falcons v San Diego Chargers

Atlanta’s grueling three game stretch is over. They played the Panthers, Broncos, and Seahawks, and walked out of that stretch 2-1, coming very close to upending the Seahawks and managing to go 3-0. They’ve exceeded expectations all year long, and at 4-2, genuinely look like one of the better teams in the NFC.

They’ll head into this home matchup against the San Diego Chargers favored for just the second time this year—more on than in hour, when we look at the odds—and it’ll be just the third time all year they’ve gotten to play in the Georgia Dome. For a team that just dealt with a grueling West Coast swing and is fresh off an emotional loss, it’ll be important to take San Diego very seriously, because they’re a better team than their 2-4 record indicates.

While there are tougher matchups on the slate, this is the kind of game the Falcons absolutely have to win to stay ahead in the NFC South, and to lock up the playoff spot they’re gunning so hard for. We’ll look for a better day on the ground against a so-so Chargers defense, and hope this secondary and pass rush can combine to contain a very effective San Diego passing attack, too.

Here’s what you need to know for the game ahead.
