The Falcons have been relatively healthy so far in 2016, but that trend has taken an unfortunate hit. The Falcons announced that Derrick Shelby has torn his achilles and is done for the season.

Shelby got off to a slow start for the season, but was showing more and more as the season progressed. He was signed away from Miami, after having a strong 2015 season in which he netted 3.5 sacks in limited action. He was signed this off-season to a four year deal for 18 million with 7.5 million guaranteed. Many analysts considered him a potential bargain signing for the team. For a Falcons defensive line that relies heavily on a rotation, losing Shelby is unfortunate, but not devastating.
The Falcons also announced that they’ve promoted Sharrod Neasman to the roster in place of Shelby.
