Revisiting the top Falcons-Seahawks Week 6 matchups

How did the Falcons end up matching up with the Seahawks?

The Atlanta Falcons’ four-game winning streak was halted Sunday as they fell 24-26 to the Seattle Seahawks.

Before the game, we identified three top matchups to keep an eye on. Let’s visit those and see how the Falcons performed.

Tevin Coleman versus Kam Chancellor

This is a matchup that didn’t happen as Chancellor missed the game with a groin injury. Coleman had a pretty quiet game, rushing five times for 10 yards and catching one pass for seven yards. Still, he was active for the game so he wins here, right?

Vic Beasley and Dwight Freeney versus Russell Wilson

The Falcons’ only sack came on a cornerback blitz by Desmond Trufant, as Wilson was largely able to escape pressure and keep plays alive. Freeney almost combined with Deion Jones for a sack late in the game, but Wilson got away. Beasley wasn’t nearly as effective as he was last week, but he did have a batted pass.

Richard Sherman versus Julio Jones

Other than Sherman getting away with a blatant defensive pass interference penalty on Atlanta’s final possession, the two players didn’t match up one-on-one much. Jones, however, beat nearly anyone he went up against. He was targeted nine times and caught seven of those passes for 139 yards and a 36-yard touchdown, but he also had a drop that resulted in an interception.
