The annual East-West Shrine Game practices are underway and the Atlanta Falcons are there, scouting players ahead of Saturday's game. Per NFL.com college football analyst Chase Goodbread, we've already interviewed two players, an offensive lineman and a defensive lineman. Let's break down those prospects.
OL Jake Brendel, UCLA
Brendel played center at UCLA, garnering All Pac-12 2nd Team honors in 2014 and 2015. He's basically your quintessential center; smart, a leader, and durable as hell. He's not particularly athletic or strong. (Peter Konz, anyone?) At 6'5, 305 pounds, he's got a frame you could build on. Brendel obviously fills a need but I'm not sure he's the best option.
DL Javon Hargrave, South Carolina State
Who says FCS schools don't produce NFL talent? Hargrave was the MEAC defensive player of the year in 2015. (He racked up 13.5 sacks and 11 QB hurries.) Scouts praised his explosiveness in the Shrine Game practices. Mike Mayock called him "Bubble Butt." Given his lack of big school pedigree and ideal size (6'2, 295 pounds), he may be available late in the draft.
Your thoughts about these two players?
