Roddy White is the Falcons' next Ring of Honor member

The veteran receiver has earned his place already.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Falcons have a few players on the roster today who should get real consideration for their Ring of Honor down the line, and no one's closer to getting in thanks to age and achievement than Roddy White.

Roddy's likely winding down his storied career in Atlanta, though I expect him to be a Falcon in 2016, but his numbers speak for themselves. Since arriving out of the University of Alabama-Birmingham back in 2005, Roddy's reeled in 808 catches for 10,863 yards, 63 touchdowns, and countless key catches in big games. He was still at it in a 2015 that saw the team reduce his role and make him the fourth option in the passing game, too, coming down with some of his typical wizardly third down catches.

He's playing on the same team as Julio Jones, who seems destined to pass him in every major category if he can stay healthy, but let's not forget that Roddy was the team's #1 option from 2007-2011 (arguably 2012), that his numbers dwarf every other receiver in this team's storied history, and that the man is responsible for some terrific trash talk over the years. Matt Ryan, Julio, and perhaps Desmond Trufant will almost certainly follow him in, but Roddy belongs among the franchise's greats, and at some point in the indeterminate future, he'll be there.
