Falcons land two talented defenders in latest mock from Mocking the Draft

The Falcons could use both of these players, though one is not, strictly speaking, a need.

Mocking The Draft traditionally turns in the kind of mock drafts I like as a Falcons fan, and this latest two round effort from Dan Kadar is no exception.

Here's who he went for in the first round:

17. Atlanta Falcons: Reggie Ragland, LB, Alabama

In the NFL, Ragland may not be a sexy player making a ton of highlight reel plays. But there is a commodity on consistency at middle linebacker, and Ragland offers it.

This is my ideal pick at #17, barring one of the draft's true impact defenders falling. Ragland has the potential to be the heart of this Falcons' defense, with his incredibly solid tackling and playmaking ability, and would be a massive upgrade in the middle for Atlanta. I'd be thrilled to see him land here.

50. Atlanta Falcons: Sheldon Rankins, DT, Louisville

This one is less thrilling, given that defensive tackle is emphatically not a need for Atlanta, but Rankins is a potential impact run defender who could be a big part of the rotation for Atlanta if they decided to clean out both Paul Soliai and Tyson Jackson's contract, so I don't hate it. Rankins has clear talent.

I can see the Falcons going with a player like Ragland in the first, and while I can't see them prioritizing a defensive tackle in the second round, defense being a priority just makes sense. What do you think of this mock?
