Falcons sign WR LaRon Byrd to practice squad, cut T Pierce Burton

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

The Jake Long signing has fallout beyond the 53 man roster, apparently.

The addition of Long has made Burton expendable, at least for now. He played well in preseason, but the Falcons are carrying three reserve tackles with Long, Tyler Polumbus and Bryce Harris, so they didn't necessarily need a fourth one on the practice squad.

The Byrd signing is interesting, then, because the team currently has seven wide receivers, and Byrd has bounced around a lot. He's 26 years old, 6'4" and has decent wheels, so he'll be the latest big, fast receiver to get a look from the team. Injuries would have to strike for him to have any relevance this year, however.

Please welcome LaRon Byrd to the team, and fare thee well, Pierce Burton.
