Today's Falcons practice was a quick one, which wrapped up after just about 40 minutes on the field. Players were in shorts and hats again -- no pads or helmets -- and there was an emphasis on red zone work. Dan Quinn said after practice that this is what a typical Friday practice will be like for the Falcons this season.
RaShede Hageman, Desmond Trufant, William Moore, Peter Konz and Antone Smith did not participate in practice. Quinn confirmed that Hageman, Moore and Konz are out for Friday's game, but it's also safe to assume that Trufant and Smith will be sidelined.
Devonta Freeman, Tevin Coleman, Brooks Reed, Cliff Matthews and Devin Hester all practiced. Quinn said the team will evaluate these players prior to game time tomorrow, but barring any setbacks, I would expect them to get some playing time tomorrow night.
Justin Hardy had a remarkable day. He caught pretty much everything that was thrown his way, including a one-handed grab in the end zone.
When the defense is operating out of the nickel against the Jets, expect to see Phillip Adams and Jalen Collins outside and Robert Alford in the nickel. That lineup was consistent again today.
Both Mike Person and Joe Hawley took snaps with the first and second team offensive lines today. With Peter Konz out, Adam Replogle took the third team snaps.
Dan Quinn said after practice that the first team will get more playing time tomorrow than they saw last week, and reiterated that some players will get more playing time than others based on how much time the coaching staff believes they need to properly evaluate each player.
