Report: Falcons to sign former Washington offensive lineman Chris Chester

The veteran will compete for a starting guard job.

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Falcons are capping a lousy day by signing former Redskins guard Chris Chester, who will hopefully improve this team. That report comes to us per ESPN's Vaughn McClure.

Chester is a veteran of both the kind of zone blocking scheme Kyle Shanahan prefers and Shanahan's offense, during the latter's stint in Washington. Given the state of the guard competition in Atlanta, Chester will likely be contending for a starting job. Unless the team moves Jon Asamoah to left guard, Chester is the favorite there.
