Per ESPN's Vaughn McClure, Dezmen Southward had knee surgery today. According to McClure's report, it's not serious, and the team hopes Southward will be healthy by the time training camp rolls around in July.
Southward was held out of yesterday's OTAs, and head coach Dan Quinn confirmed the knee injury when speaking to the media after practice. Still, surgery is a big jump from missing a day with a knee injury, so this news is a little surprising. If the hope is for Southward to be physically ready to participate in training camp in July, this is likely just some clean up, which wouldn't take too long to fully heal.
In the Quinn era, Southward will transition to cornerback. He has a shot to really develop under this coaching staff, and his speed could be a real asset on the field, so here's hoping he's healthy enough by the time training camp rolls around.
