Updated Falcons roster has some interesting changes

Looks like all that talk about transitioning Dezmen Southward to corner had merit, based on the latest version of the Falcons' roster.

The most recent version of the Falcons' roster features some pretty significant changes for a lot of players.

Dan Quinn has said that the team would try Dezmen Southward at cornerback, and the roster confirms it. Southward has the speed and the length Quinn's looking for in a cornerback and it's a logical move.

Also of note is the current makeup of the outside linebacker position group. Vic Beasley, the Falcons' selection with the eighth-overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, is officially listed as an outside linebacker, as are free agent additions Brooks Reed, Justin Durant, and O'Brien Schofield. Kroy Biermann and Stansly Maponga are both listed as OLBs, and it appears that the team will bounce Prince Shembo back outside to the position he played in college after trying him at inside linebacker last season.

Tyler Starr is not designated as an outside linebacker. He's simply designated as a linebacker at present, along with Paul Worrilow, Joplo Bartu, Nate Stupar, Marquis Spruill, Allen Bradford, Derek Akunne and Derrick Malone, Jr. We know that Worrilow, Stupar and Spruill are best suited to play inside, so it's interesting that Starr is grouped in with these guys as opposed to the outside linebackers.

A few other notes:

Ra'Shede Hageman is still listed as a defensive end, as is Tyson Jackson. Grady Jarrett is listed as a defensive tackle. Ricky Havili-Heimuli and undrafted free agent Joseph Mbu are both listed as nose tackles.

Matt Bosher is still listed as a punter, and it does not appear that a transition to free safety is imminent for the hard-hitting special teamer, even if many of us think it's a great idea.

Your thoughts on the current roster? What other position changes do you think we could see on the roster prior to the season?
