If mock drafts were remotely accurate, there'd be no need for an actual draft. But heck, it's fun to play the guessing game. And with the actual draft just a month away, the guessing game won't go on forever. In the meantime, we're going to throw every mock draft at the Falcohol sipping masses, desperately hoping that something sticks.
While he's not exactly known as a draft guru, Peter King does release occasional mock drafts. In his most recent mock, he again has the Falcons selecting DE/OLB hybrid Bud Dupree.
8. ATLANTA
Alvin "Bud" Dupree, DE/OLB, Kentucky.Mark my words: Dupree's getting picked higher than draftniks think. And if there's one regret Atlanta GM Thomas Dimitroff has after last season, it's that he didn't go out and buy or draft a premier rusher last year. He won't get fooled again.
We've discussed Dupree ad nauseum in the pre-draft period. He had an impressive combine, logging a 4.56 40 yard dash, 42 inch vertical, and 138 inch broad jump. Those numbers are noteworthy standing alone, but when you hear that this kid weighs 270 pounds, they're even more impressive. But then there's the game tape.
He may have racked up sacks as a college senior, but Dupree's game tape is underwhelming. His elite athleticism won't stand alone against NFL talent, and once blockers engage him, Dupree is a little lost. He needs coaching and seasoning - is that a luxury the Falcons have?
