A day late, perhaps, but Mel Kiper Jr. dropped his latest mock draft, and the Falcons walk away with (surprise!) a pass rusher. At least Kiper's got a decent grasp on the team's needs.
Here's what Kiper had to say about Beasley this time out. If you're curious, Kiper had previously predicted the Falcons would win up with Dante Fowler Jr., but he has Fowler going #5 in this latest mock.
Analysis: Atlanta needs productivity from a pass-rusher, and I think new defensive coordinator Richard Smith will know how to get Beasley going in the same way Denver was able to get Von Miller going. Now, Beasley isn't Miller -- but I do think he's a pure pass-rusher who can get to opposing QBs regardless of what system you're employing. Beasley had 44.5 tackles for loss over the last two seasons, and while I don't think he's an every-down player, he's going to come in ready to be used. Shane Ray is also an option here, and though I wouldn't rule out an O-line pick either, with Scherff off the board the value isn't great in this slot.
Beasley is a terrific fit for the Leo in Dan Quinn's defense, he's definitely one of the most productive pass rushers in this class and he desperately would like to be a Falcon, so this seems logical. It's very tough to get a bead on where Beasley's actually going to go, because depending on which mock you're looking at, he's off the board by #3 or dropping to the tail end of the top ten. Obviously
At this point, the majority of mocks have the Falcons winding up with either Vic Beasley or Randy Gregory, and I'd be damn happy either way. How about you?
