ESPN: Saints Interested in Falcons CB Robert McClain

The Saints are looking to build the historic Falcons 2013-2014 defense in New Orleans.

Only a few days ago Falcons nickel corner Robert McClain said he may be back with Atlanta. It sounds more likely that he will be playing in New Orleans. Per ESPN's Vaughn McClure:

McClain bounced around between corner needy teams for a few years before finally having a breakout year in 2012. However, since 2012, McClain has been often picked on and frequently burned. Pro Football Focus ranked him as the worst corner on the Falcons, 90th out of 108 corners in the league.

It is not surprising that McClain is expected to move on, as his poor play and short stature are unlikely to appeal to new head coach Dan Quinn.

The Saints will likely be linked to every cheap veteran available. Their cap situation is an unmitigated disaster, and they will have to make some cuts, restructure some contracts, and sign some cheap help. McClain is still young, should come cheap, and has shown, however briefly, an ability to be a good player.

If McClain does go to New Orleans, expect him to get picked on early and often by the Falcons offense.
