Atlanta Falcons' "Hard Knocks" season nominated for four Emmy awards

Fact: Matt Ryan can write perfect calligraphy ... with his feet

The Atlanta Falcons' decision to be featured on "Hard Knocks" last off-season was met with mixed reviews. Many fans were excited about an intimate look at the team. Other fans were concerned about the distraction. In hindsight, it's hard to blame a lackluster 2014-2015 season on the show.

Impact on the team aside, the show wasn't met with rave reviews. Neutral football fans complained about Mike Smith. And to be fair, he is a little boring. But against all odds, the show is up for four Emmy awards.

The following Hard Knocks nominations were announced today: Outstanding sports documentary series, outstanding long form editing, outstanding music composition/direction and lyrics and for outstanding post-produced audio/sound.

I'm a little surprised by the nominations. That said, you can blame the lukewarm response on past seasons of the show. Fans of the show got used to seeing vociferous coaches with strong personalties. They also got used to a lot of drama. While the Falcons' 2014 training camp might've deviated from that paradigm, it's still a good show. There's still no show on television quite like it. That alone warrants the nominations.
