The laser focus on free agency must wane, given that the frenzy of early signings is over. It's time to start thinking about the roster in earnest, and you can't think about the roster without considering the 2015 NFL Draft.
We turn to Dan Kadar at Mocking the Draft, who has a new "post" free agency mock draft. I put quotations around post because the Falcons and other teams aren't done yet, but at least the first wave has passed. He's mocking a familiar name to the Falcons.
8. Atlanta Falcons: Vic Beasley, DE/OLB, Clemson
This is a run to the podium selection. The Falcons may have signed linebackers Brooks Reed and O’Brien Schofield and defensive end Adrian Clayborn, but none of them possess Beasley’s level of talent. Beasley has an incredible first step and plays with enough power to get past blockers. He’d go a long way in giving the Falcons a formidable front seven in the 3-4.
If you believe in Beasley's talent and athleticism, this pick makes a ton of sense. The Falcons lack a truly elite athlete to play LEO in Dan Quinn's defense, and Beasley could slot in there comfortably. The Falcons have the pieces in the middle to push the pocket, so getting a potentially game changing player who could attack from the edge would make a considerable difference. It's not going to fix this team's chronic pass rushing woes instantly, but it's a major step in the right direction. Obviously, I love Beasley.
At this point, if Vic Beasley isn't being mocked to the Falcons, he's probably being mocked to another team before the Falcons. Do you think he'll make it to #8?
