Falcons re-sign RB Antone Smith

Antone Smith will be fed in 2015.

According to the team, the veteran running back has re-signed with the Falcons.

Smith, who was a home run threat virtually every time he touched the ball, finished last season with five touchdowns -- two rushing, three receiving. In total, he gained 144 yards on the ground and 222 through the air.

His campaign was cut short, however, when he broke his leg on Nov. 16 against Carolina. Smith will turn 30 in the fall, and though he has never been given a large workload at the NFL level, it remains unclear how explosive he can be moving forward.

Smith will once again join fellow Florida State alumnus Devonta Freeman in Atlanta's backfield. With Steven Jackson gone, and with a new, more creative coaching staff in place, each could see a healthy spike in carries next year.

The Giants were rumored to be interested in Smith, but those talked died down once New York acquired Shane Vereen.
