NFL Free Agency: Falcons Expected to Sign LB Justin Durant

A weakness in the Falcons defense should be getting a veteran presence.

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

Of all the position groups the Falcons have weaknesses at, most fans agree that linebacker is one of the ones at the top. It appears the team agrees, as they are expected to sign a veteran to try and solidify the depth of the unit. Per Adam Schefter:

Durant is a quality OLB, when he's healthy. Unfortunately, that just hasn't been the case for most of his career. Durant played only 6 games for the Cowboys last year before landing on season-ending IR with a torn bicep. He's played a total of 16 games the last two seasons, and has only played 16 games in a season just once (2012).

That said, when he plays, Durant is a quality run-stopper who has the speed to cover the field. However, his coverage has often been inconsistent, so he's not likely to be a top-notch 3-down starter for the team. But as a veteran presence who can start on occasion and offers solid depth, he's a decent signing if not a splashy one.

What do you think of this signing?
