If last week's game was critical for the playoff race, this week's game is essentially a do-or-die for both teams involved.
If the Falcons lose again, they'll be down to .500 after a 5-0 start, will have no tiebreaker over the Buccaneers and will thus be behind them in both the NFC South and the NFC playoff race, and probably haven't a prayer at digging out and catching Tampa Bay or Seattle with two games left against the Panthers. The Buccaneers would slip to 5-7 with a loss, meanwhile, putting them two full games behind Atlanta and basically ensuring they'll miss the playoffs if they can't manage a 4-0 run to end the season. Even then, they'll need some luck.
For Atlanta, this is also a chance at revenge after they lost a heartbreaking overtime game to Tampa Bay earlier this year. The two teams have gone in largely opposite directions since, with Tampa Bay moving toward competency while the Falcons faded badly. A win here would be a morale booster for the Falcons, it would keep them at least somewhat relevant, and it would give them something to build on with those aforementioned Carolina games looming.
