The NFL trade deadline is just around the corner. The Atlanta Falcons aren't likely to make any moves prior to the deadline. But heck, a little roster-related guesswork never hurt anyone. So let's indulge for a moment and consider one possibility.
NFL Media senior analyst Gil Brandt came out with a list of "trades that would make sense" today. Brandt, as you know, spent a long time in the Dallas Cowboys' front office. He knows how to manage a roster. On his list is Tamba Hali to the Falcons. This is what he had to say.
Hali might be in his 10th season, but he's coming off a five-tackle, two-sack performance in which he also forced a fumble, and he could definitely help the Falcons. Atlanta ranks second against the run but 25th against the pass, with a league-low eight sacks -- if Hali can boost the Falcons' pass rush, their defense could suddenly become a factor. He's probably worth a fifth-rounder ...
Vishnu knows the Falcons could use some pass rushing help. This whole "we can do it with teamwork!" approach is mostly lip service. Dan Quinn knows his personnel is lacking, he's just supports his guys too much to admit it publicly.
Kansas City Chiefs fans hate this idea. They're attached to Hali, even if he's on the wrong side of 30 and playing on a one-year deal. He played his butt off against the Pittsburgh Steelers last weekend, notching 2 sacks, a tackle for a loss, and a forced fumble. There's still gas in that tank. For a 5th or 6th rounder, I'd probably make that deal. Would you?
