The Atlanta Falcons officially swept the NFC East today in an overtime win over the Washington Redskins. It was a frustrating, exciting game that ultimately resulted in a win. There's plenty to pick apart about the Falcons' performance, and there will be time for that. For now, the team is 5-0 and the future looks bright. Let's break down the injuries.
The Falcons split their major injuries between the first and second half. In the first half, Leonard Hankerson went down with a rib injury, drawing a "questionable" classification. At that point, Roddy White had continued his unimpressive streak and Julio Jones was looking very gimpy. For a moment there, things looked dire. Eventually Hankerson made his way back into the game, so whatever he did to his ribs must've been tolerable. Let's just hope it stays that way.
In the second half, Mike Person left the game and was replaced by James Stone. The fact that the Falcons have made it through five regular season games without a significant offensive lineman injury is quite remarkable. Maybe they're due. I just hope Person's apparent ankle injury isn't too serious.
Of concern going forward is Julio's health. While the coaching staff repeatedly says he's healthy, today it was readily apparent that he's not. There's a vast difference between healthy Julio and gimpy Julio. Gimpy Julio, while helpful and still above-average, doesn't move the same.
