Daniel Jeremiah's First Mock Draft: Falcons Take... A Wide Receiver

New, comments

This was unexpected, but it is the time for hot takes and mock drafts. Who should be the newest Falcon?

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Falcons finished another season at the bottom of the league in sacks. The offensive line is usually ineffective and injured. The team nas zero playmakers in their front seven. They can make a quick impact with the 8th overall pick in the 2015 draft.

NFL analyst and former pro scout Daniel Jeremiah, through careful consideration and analysis determined how to best help the Falcons.

MORE WIDE RECEIVERS RRRRROOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLL TIIIIIIDDDDEEEEEEE! He has the Falcons selecting Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper.

Roddy White isn’t getting any younger, and Cooper would be a perfect complement to Julio Jones. Roll Tide!

Cooper is one of the top wide receivers in the draft, and with Julio Jones, would give the Atlanta Falcons lots of young talent at the wide receiver position. The team would also be exploding with Crimson Tide players.

But how? You can only ignore the defense so long.

Jeremiah has a "worst case scenario" for the Falcons defense, with Randy Gregory, Dante Fowler, Jr. and Shane Ray all gone by the time the Falcons are on the clock. If that happens, should the Falcons reach on a right tackle in the top 10? Add another corner? Add another 300-pound defensive lineman who cannot rush the passer? Or go with an immediate impact player like Cooper?

If the Falcons can play free agency well enough, they may be able to afford to bypass other positions and take Cooper 8th overall. Thoughts on Cooper as a selection?
