Week One is finally here, and Jake Matthews is making his regular season debut. As a first round pick, there's definitely high expectations, but what should we expect for his first real game?
Jake had a pretty bumpy preseason, but don't let that discourage you this coming Sunday. Desmond Trufant has his fair share of rookie struggles last year, and now seems to be doing just fine. We all know what Matthews is capable of, so his performance will rely heavily on his preparation, which he definitely holds in high regard. It's in his blood, you know.
The Saints bring with them Cameron Jordan, a pro bowl pass rusher who will serve as the first major test for Atlanta's line this season. Twelve and a half sacks are nothing to laugh about, and it will be vital for Matthews to hold his own in order for Ryan to spread the ball around. Don't forget, Steven Jackson will be returning and will finally get to test out his new and improved offensive line. If Jake can play solid in both phases of the position, then the Falcons may start their season with an extremely satisfying victory.
Do you see Matthews living up to the hype, and helping pave the way for a high-flying offense?
