The Falcons made a move on the practice squad today, exchanging one young tackle for another:
The Falcons made a practice squad move today, waiving Terren Jones and signing Reid Fragel: http://t.co/3emZZl0XJ0 #ATLvsMIN

The 23-year-old Fragel is in his second season in the NFL and has bounced around between the Browns, Colts and now Falcons since being drafted in the seventh round by the Bengals in 2013. At 6'8", 308 pounds, the converted tight end had a reputation for great athleticism, a nasty attitude and lateral quickness that made him an interesting pro prospect. I admit I was hoping the Falcons would take a shot at him in the later rounds of the 2013 NFL Draft, but he wound up here eventually.
Unfortunately, he clearly hasn't been picking up the position at the NFL level at the pace any team would like, and his functional strength remains a concern. The Falcons will hope they can mold him into a useful reserve tackle under Mike Tice, and we will too.
Jones was entering his second season with the Falcons, and the 6'7", 320 pound lineman offered intriguing size and strength for the position. He even wound up playing snaps on the active roster in 2013, and it looked like the Falcons would give him a real shot to earn a job going forward. Based on training camp observations I feared he might not make the team, much less the practice squad, but I figured once he stuck on the squad he'd bide his time there in 2014 and compete for a reserve job in 2015. For whatever reason, the Falcons decided he was not part of their plans.
We wish Jones well and welcome Fragel to the Falcons.
