Falcons vs. Saints 2014: A Rivalry History

A breakdown of the Falcons-Saints rivalry, still going strong in 2014.

Daniel Shirey-USA TODAY Sports

When the Falcons and Saints play on Sunday, it will be the 90th meeting of the two teams. While these two teams have largely been sadsacks up until the last decade, theirs is one of the most established rivalries in NFL history, stretching back to 1967 and framed against the backdrop of a 49ers-dominated NFC West and competitive NFC South.

It's fair to say there's no love lost between these teams or their fans, and we'll talk more about that a little later into what many have dubbed #SaintsHateWeek. Suffice to say the Falcons have not fared well in recent years against Sean Payton and Drew Brees, a trend we'll hope they begin to reverse on September 7th.

Here's a collection of records, interesting facts and so forth for these two teams. We'll make this a weekly feature this season, but you're unlikely to be as interested any other team. These are the reviled Saints, after all.
