I get a lot of press releases in my inbox, but few contain good news like this:
The votes are in and the winners have been chosen! Falcons’ Matt Ryan was awarded the FedEx NFL Air Player of the Week! Ryan won for his spectacular performance against the New Orleans Saints (threw for 448 yards and three touchdowns in the Falcons’ 37-34 overtime victory).
Don’t forget, because of his win, Atlanta’s chapter of the American Red Cross will now be awarded a $2,000 donation in Ryan’s name.
Ryan earned this one, and your votes helped ensure he'd get the award. There's a lot of shuffling of deck chairs to try to take away from Ryan's achievement by denigrating the Saints defense, but it's the same Saints defense that ranked as a Top 5 unit in the NFL just a year ago. Ryan carved them up like an overzealous dad at Thanksgiving.
We'll hope he can do something similar to a better Bengals defense that has some similar issues at cornerback. How do you think Ryan fares this time out?
