Matt Ryan, Matt Bryant Named NFC Players of the Week

A weekly honor for two of the three best Matts on the Atlanta Falcons.

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

After hanging 448 yards, three touchdowns and 15 yards worth of wonderfully awkward scrambling on the Saints in Week 1, Matt Ryan has been named the NFC's Offensive Player of the Week. It's the fifth time he's received the award, and it was probably Ryan at his most deserving. That game was nuts.

It was a great week for the team's Matts, as Bryant got the NFC's Special Teams Player of the Week for nailing a 51-yard field goal at the end of regulation to get the team to overtime, then drilling a 52-yarder to seal the win for the Falcons. Bryant then calmly completed his typical commute home, piloting a fully engulfed zeppelin through a mountain pass while being pursued by Russian fighter jets.

Both are extremely deserving, and there's little question that without their heroics, the Falcons would have lost the game, leading to more smug Saints fans moments. Those are anathema to good and loving people.

Hopefully this is the first of many awards and accolades to come this season for Ryan, Bryant and many others on the team.
