Falcons Practice Squad Tracker

We'll keep you updated with the latest information as Atlanta's practice squad takes shape.

Kevin C. Cox

Players who were waived by NFL teams as part of the process to establish the 53-man roster by the league's deadline had until noon today to clear waivers, and if they remained unclaimed by other teams, those players were then eligible to be added to practice squad rosters. While the team likely won't announce anything official for a while, we'll keep you up to date on any signings that leak via players, their agents, and the media prior to the official team announcement.

Remember, the practice squad rules regarding the number of players and eligibility requirements recently changed. Teams are now allowed to designate ten players for the practice squad, as opposed to eight. Players are permitted two years of practice squad eligibility, with a minimum of three weeks on a practice squad constituting a full year, as long as they have have been active for fewer than nine games on a NFL roster.

12:18 p.m. Per Adam Caplan, running back Jerome Smith will sign with Atlanta as a practice squad player. Smith was signed by the Falcons as an undrafted free agent out of Syracuse following the 2014 NFL Draft, and was released when the team made moves to trim the roster to 75 players.

Eric Edholm of Yahoo Sports is also reporting that Terren Jones has a practice squad offer from the Falcons.

Update 1:20 PM: Terren Jones took to twitter to excitedly inform fans he joined the Falcons practice squad. 8 more spots open.

Update 1:24 PM: I guess a little after 1 PM is "tweet your practice squad status" time. Glad to see Atlanta brought back Robertson, a guy who had a real nice camp.

Update 1:27 PM: Everyone back away from that ledge, Bernard Reedy is sticking around in Atlanta. Falcons putting some nice talent on this practice squad.

Update: 2:53 p.m.: The Falcons have made eight practice squad signings official. In addition to Jerome Smith, Terren Jones, Travian Robertson, and Bernard Reedy, the Falcons have also confirmed the addition of safety Sean Baker, cornerback Ricardo Allen, guard Harland Gunn, and outside linebacker Jacques Smith. They have two practice squad spots remaining.
