One Falcon To Watch: Lamar Holmes

New, comments

Destiny has called Lamar Holmes, and it's up to him to answer.

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

After the injury to Sam Baker in last week's game against Houston, no player on this Falcons squad feels more pressure than third-year tackle Lamar Holmes. Holmes hasn't exactly shown Hall Of Fame promise in his short career with Atlanta, but now he has another chance to justify his third round draft status with some solid play in the coming weeks.

Obviously, Jake Matthews is the future at left tackle.  The only way Lamar can crack the starting line-up is on the opposite side, and that's where I believe he can be very successful. At 6'6", and 333 pounds, he's a mountain of a man.  Now with a whole year's experience under his belt, and a more than capable right guard in Jon Asamoah by his side, this could be the year that many fans start to find themselves less critical of Holmes.

The Tennessee Titans aren't a team known for their ruthless pass rush, so it's not as if this week will be the ultimate challenge for Lamar.  But, this is around three full quarters of action against starting NFL players, and will be interesting to keep an eye on nonetheless.

How do you think Holmes will perform?
