When special teams ace Eric Weems was waived recently by the Chicago Bears, there was speculation that he might return to Atlanta. The Falcons didn't make a move right away, but the team has announced that they did sign Eric Weems this afternoon.
Weems was initially signed by the Falcons as a college free agent following the 2007 NFL Draft. Weems spent 2012 and 2013 with the Bears after departing Atlanta as a free agent. He has never been a prolific receiver, but he's been remarkable on special teams throughout his career. Weems has amassed 3,184 career kickoff return yards and 815 career punt return yards over the course of his career.
Weems will re-join former Bears teammate Devin Hester in Atlanta.
To make space for Weems, the Falcons have also waived wide receiver Jabin Sambrano. Sambrano entered the league as a college free agent following the 2012 NFL Draft and has spent time with the Colts, the Jaguars, and the Bucs.
What do you think about Weems returning to Atlanta?
