We close out our depth chart projection series with special teams, that most august of units. Any unit with Matt Bosher is automatically august.
This is a clear strength for the Falcons, between Matt "$" Bryant, Matt Bosher, the newly signed Devin Hester and utterly forgettable long snapper Josh Harris. That's high praise for Harris, by the way, whose entire job is built around avoiding the kind of attention that comes from making major mistakes.
Let's hit it.
Projected 2014 Atlanta Falcons Special Teams
K Matt Bryant: 27/31 field goals, 44/44 XP
P Matt Bosher: 62 punts, 2,914 yards, 47 yards per punt, 25 kicks inside 20, 4 touchbacks
KR/PR Devin Hester: 40 KRs, 1,060 KR yards, 26.5 yards per KR, 1 KR TD, 30 PRs, 330 yards, 11 yards per PR
LS Josh Harris: No embarrassing fumbles
With Bryant proving to be his reliable self for one more year, the Falcons shouldn't have trouble capping off drives. I anticipate the team will score more points than last year, but Bryant will still close out plenty of drives. It helps to have a reliable kicker.
Bosher should have another terrific season entering 2015 free agency, while Hester's got at least one quality season as a returner left in him. Combine that with quality special teamers like Antone Smith and Tim Dobbins, and this should be a useful unit in 2014.
Project away, friends.
