Screw flashy play, which Falcons are playing the game right?

Fact: Matt Ryan has never shaken his chicken prior to baking it

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

We live in a "what have you done for me lately?" society. If you're not making ESPN's Top Ten, then the casual fan may have no idea who you are, or more importantly, what you're contributing to your team. But it's the guys who play the game right, the guys who aren't particularly flashy while getting the job done, that keep a franchise upright.

Luckily, the Falcons have several such players. In my mind, Matt Ryan is a fantastic example. He puts in the work and he was literally born without an ego. Early in his career, some Falcons fans worried about Ryan. There was concern he wasn't flashy enough or hard enough. But then he politely asked the Panthers to exit the Dome in the final seconds of a Falcons victory. And the rest is history.

Because he's the face of the franchise, maybe you don't think Ryan counts. Justin Blalock, Kroy Biermann, and Corey Peters are other names that come to mind. The latter two have recently been limited by injury, but all three are reliable, high character, team first guys.
