2014 NFL Draft Live Blog: Atlanta Falcons, Day 2

The Atlanta Falcons have two picks today and a couple of major needs to address in Rounds 2 and 3 of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Falcons will be back on the clock in under three hours, as the second and third rounds of the 2014 NFL Draft kick off tonight.

With nine picks left, the Falcons promise to be plenty active, perhaps moving around in a way they simply could not in the first round. After shoring up the run defense, adding special teams value and locking down the right side of the line between free agency and the first round, the Falcons need to add young, athletic talent to the defense tonight.

The Falcons obviously have outstanding needs they'll want to try to address in rounds two and three. The question becomes who will be available and whether the Falcons will need to get creative to hit on whatever combination of pass rusher, inside linebacker, free safety, running back and tight end they happen to covet.

Join us for our live blog starting at 6:30 p.m. sharp. Let's go get some great players, Falcons.

2014 Atlanta Falcons NFL Draft Live Blog - Day 2

11:07 p.m. - The Falcons are officially done, so we are too. Have a great night, and tune in for the third day of the draft tomorrow!

9:50 p.m. - The Falcons made their traditional third round stunner pick, grabbing Dezmen Southward out of Wisconsin. Great toolkit, needs work.

9:15 p.m. - The Panthers finally stopped Kony Early's draft day fall at the bottom of the second round. It's a worthwhile gamble for a team that needed a tackle but didn't see one they liked.

9:05 p.m. - Stanley Jean-Baptiste goes to the Saints. Think they noticed all the receivers in the division?

8:36 p.m. - EGO!

8:22 p.m. - Jeremiah Attaochu remains on the board, even as a few pass rushers go.

7:42 p.m. - After cheering for a bit, I can announce the Falcons wound up with Ra'Shede Hageman.

7:28 p.m. - The Raiders pick Derek Carr! The Falcons are on the clock.

7:24 p.m. - The Browns go with Joel Bitonio, one of the better linemen available. Not my favorite guy, but as a right tackle on that line, he's a nice fit.

7:16 p.m. - My Demarcus Lawrence dream is already dead. Dallas traded up and grabbed him with pick #34.

7:11 p.m. - The Texans kick things off with Xavier Su'a-Filo out of UCLA. Potentially terrific guard, so that's a win.

6:03 p.m. - Vaughn McClure has a rumor to pass on:

I don't buy that one, to be frank. I'm not ruling out anything because it's the NFL Draft, but the Falcons were going up for a pass rusher just last night. They'd have to hate what's left to go tight end.
