We've had seesawing mock drafts and rumors aplenty, but the question on everyone's mind is this: Which positions will the Falcons walk away with in the first round?
You'll note I'm emphasizing position and not player. That's not to say picking, say, Jadeveon Clowney versus Khalil Mack won't make a gigantic difference in how we perceive the relative success of the first round. It's just that the fundamental divide in this fanbase is between those who want a tackle, those who want a pass rushing defensive end or linebacker and those who want a different position entirely.
Ultimately, I have a hard time choosing, but I'd likely go with pass rusher. I think the Falcons will do what it takes to get a Jadeveon Clowney, Khalil Mack or even Anthony Barr at #6 or higher, shoring up a traditional weakness. Part of me wishes they would lock down left tackle for the foreseeable future with the help of a Jake Matthews or Greg Robinson, but I find myself leaning more and more toward the pass rushing option.
It goes without saying that I consider safety, tight end or any other position less likely, simply because it would require the draft to unfold in an unusual way or a trade down.
What do you think?
