Falcons Work Out Buffalo Pass Rusher Khalil Mack, Continue Busy Day

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

The Falcons had been linked to four of the five most likely prospects for their first round pick in the upcoming 2014 NFL Draft already, and we now know the fifth is actually working out for Falcons brass today:

Khalil Mack is probably the consensus choice for a pass rusher for these Atlanta Falcons, for reasons that are as myriad as they are justifiable. Mack is an impact athlete who would seem to be a natural fit as a 3-4 outside linebacker, and he has all the tools necessary to be a force of nature there. The major concerns are college level of competition and how smoothly his game will transition to the pros.

The Falcons now will get a first-hand look at five elite prospects from the class, at least one of whom is likely to be available at #6. You may choose to put Anthony Barr in a lower tier, but clearly Jake Matthews, Greg Robinson and Jadeveon Clowney are all top players and any should give the Falcons a significant boost. Given the 3-4 looks the Falcons plan to roll out and how intriguing Mack is, I'd have to say he's my early favorite for #6, assuming he squeaks by the Jaguars and Raiders.
