Report: Louisville LB Preston Brown Will Work Out For Falcons Wednesday

The productive Louisville linebacker projects to be a fifth-or-sixth round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

D. Orlando Ledbetter at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution links the Falcons to another Louisville defender just a day after the team was connected with defensive end Marcus Smith:

The team's interest in Brown is natural and welcome. A projected 5th-to-6th round pick, Brown had an extremely productive senior season at Louisville, piling up 98 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and three forced fumbles for the Cardinals. He lacks elite speed and size, but he's a physical player with quality athleticism who tackles extremely well. At the NFL level, his skills likely make him a good fit as an inside linebacker.

The Falcons need to add talent at ILB in this draft, because they don't have any players who are clear fits at the position on the current roster. Brown's production and talent give him a chance to compete for a starting job inside right away and potentially become an above-average NFL starter down the line, though that's my optimism talking. If he impresses the Falcons tomorrow, however, he's a name to file away for draft day as the Falcons continue to align their personnel to more 3-4 fronts.
