No One's Ever Won Back-To-Back NFC South Titles. Can The Falcons Keep That Alive?

If the Panthers win Sunday, they'll be the first back-to-back division winner since the division was founded back in 2002.

The NFC South is home to a rather famous streak. Since the division was founded back in 2002, it has been one of the most competitive in the NFL, and to this point no team has managed back-to-back NFC South titles. Up to this point, every single team has won the division three times in total, so either the Falcons or Panthers will gain the edge there.

A win on Sunday would ensure that streak remains alive, and it would make the Falcons the most successful team in the division, at least in terms of NFC South crowns. If the Panthers win, they'll have fancy back-to-back title seasons, and we just can't have that.

Contrast the NFC South with the AFC East, to grab one example, and you can understand just how closely contested this division has been over the years. Since 2002, the Patriots have only lost the East twice, in 2002 to the Jets and 2008 to the Miami Dolphins. The Patriots have been one of the best teams in the NFL for years now, but it's tough to argue that they haven't had an easy go of it against the Jets, Dolphins and Bills. We may not love that the Falcons can't walk to a division title every season, but at least it feels earned.
