NFC South Standings, Week 14: Falcons On Top Of The Tiny Mountain

The 5-7 Falcons are in first place after Week 13, and suddenly this whole playoff berth thing feels like the real deal.

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

The Falcons were supposed to be dead in the water after starting the season 2-5, but after Week 13 the NFC South standings tell a different story.

NFC South Standings

Atlanta Falcons: 5-7
New Orleans Saints: 5-7
Carolina Panthers: 3-8-1
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 2-10

The Saints and Falcons are in a dogfight, and the Saints may have a leg up next week thanks to an Atlanta trip to Lambeau Field. The Panthers are still ostensibly in this if they can pull something together, but they and the Buccaneers would need to be considered long shots. It's the two games we all anticipated, in other words, with records none of us could have anticipated.

The Falcons cap off the season against the Packers, Steelers, Saints and Panthers, while the Saints get the Panthers, Bears, Falcons and Buccaneers. Let's hope the Falcons have some big wins left in the tank as we come to the end of the year.
