Falcons vs. Browns Snap Counts For Week 12

The loss was devastating, so we'll turn to cold, hard numbers to continue the discussion.

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

No preamble, just snap counts. We're going to power through this one.

Offense

Jake Matthews: 71 (100%)
Jon Asamoah: 71
Matt Ryan: 71
Justin Blalock: 71
James Stone: 71
Ryan Schraeder: 71
Roddy White: 67
Julio Jones: 62
Levine Toilolo: 56
Harry Douglas: 45
Steven Jackson: 37
Jacquizz Rodgers: 23
Devin Hester: 17
Gabe Carimi: 14
Devonta Freeman: 11
Patrick DiMarco: 10
Eric Weems: 6
Bear Pascoe: 6

Jacquizz Rodgers ended up gobbling up most of the snaps that Antone Smith would have normally gotten, not Devonta Freeman. Nobody really ran well in this one.

Otherwise, there wasn't any noteworthy changes in snap counts here. The offense continues to hum along at its usual blistering pace, which is to say the mere thought of them playing quality defenses makes me break out in blisters.

Defense

Paul Worrilow: 75 (100%)
Kemal Ishmael: 75
Desmond Trufant: 75
Dwight Lowery: 75
Kroy Biermann: 63
Jonathan Babineaux: 58
Robert McClain: 56
Josh Wilson: 47
Paul Soliai: 42
Malliciah Goodman: 38
Corey Peters: 38
Tyson Jackson: 37
Joplo Bartu: 33
Jonathan Massaquoi: 24
Dezmen Southward: 23
Osi Umenyiora: 23
Prince Shembo: 19
Ra'Shede Hageman: 16
Javier Arenas: 9

To put it mildly, the rotation of players continues to baffle me. Massaquoi was certainly healthier and played more snaps, but he capped out just below 33% of the snaps, while Biermann turned in a decent performance but not one worthy of 80-plus percent of the snaps. Ra'Shede Hageman continues to hover in the teens, Prince Shembo is still behind Joplo Bartu (who admittedly had one of his stronger weeks) and poor Robert McClain largely got killed out there before suffering his injury. The defense pulled out some big turnovers and managed to limit the damage enough to keep the Falcons in this one, but it still wasn't pretty.

Special Teams

Dezmen Southward: 22
Javier Arenas: 18
Nate Stupar: 16
Eric Weems: 16
Josh Wilson: 14
Matt Bosher: 13
Prince Shembo: 13
Tyson Jackson: 11
Jacquizz Rodgers: 10
Gabe Carimi: 10
Patrick DiMarco: 10
Harland Gunn: 10
Devin Hester: 8
Matt Bryant: 4

Arenas nearly led the way in special teams snaps this week, something that probably won't happen given that he's going to get a ton of snaps if both Robert Alford and Robert McClain are out against the Cardinals this upcoming weekend. The Falcons have lost Alford, McClain, and Antone Smith on special teams, so they'll hope to patch over those holes with guys like James Anderson, who should be active next week.
