Falcons Place Peter Konz On IR, Sign Tackle Jonathan Scott

The center was injured in Sunday's Ravens game and will miss the rest of the season.

Rob Carr

This Atlanta Falcons line cannot catch a break.

Konz was injured early in the Ravens game. When the cart came out for him, you knew he was going to miss time, but it's deeply unfortunate that the Falcons will be without their top two centers heading into the 2014 season. They'll turn to rookie UDFA James Stone and possibly center/guard Harland Gunn going forward. We'll have to hope one of them can step up, play well and help a beleaguered offensive line survive the next nine weeks of the season.

Scott, 31, has spent time with the Lions, Bills, Steelers and Bears, and most recently got into a game back in 2012. He should be strictly a reserve for this team, which is making tackle help a priority with Gabe Carimi struggling and Jake Matthews dealing with an ankle injury and struggling. Suffice to say this move isn't going to rescue the offensive line from its own mediocrity, but then at this point, I'm not sure anyone out there in free agency would.

We wish Konz a swift recovery, and may Stone and Gunn do good work from here on out.
