Falcons Roster Cuts: Three receivers down, roster is now at 75

The Falcons make their cuts down to 75 ahead of Tuesday's deadline by letting go of three wide receivers.

Mitch Stringer-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Falcons have made it to the NFL-mandated 75 man roster limit well before Tuesday's 4 p.m. deadline, cutting three wide receivers to hit the mark.

The only real surprise here is Marcus Jackson, who excelled in practice each of the last two years. He never could translate that to consistent production in preseason games, however. Marcus Sales and Rashad Evans got very few chances to begin with, so this is hardly a surprise.

These moves help to clarify the picture at wide receiver a bit. The Falcons have Roddy White, Julio Jones and Harry Douglas more or less locked in, with Drew Davis looking like the obvious fourth receiver. That leaves Martel Moore, Kevin Cone, James Rodgers and Darius Johnson competing for the fifth slot, with one of those guys probably hitting the practice squad, as well.

At this point, Johnson's very strong preseason would make him the favorite for that role, in my mind. Don't count out Cone, who has been with the team for a while now, or Rodgers, who offers special teams value the other two may not. Moore has a ton of potential, which is why I'm ticketing him for the practice squad.

Look for my 53 man roster projection later today. What's your reaction to these three cuts?
