Just to be clear: I'm perfectly happy with the mix of young dudes the Falcons will be trotting out at defensive end. this season. The question is, are you?
It's looking increasingly likely that the Saints are just going to dump long-time end Will Smith before the opening of the season. At 32 years old, Smith isn't what he used to be, but he managed six sacks playing for what could charitably be described as a train wreck of a New Orleans defense.
You can take two approaches to building a rotation of guys capable of getting 4-6 sacks. You can go young and roll on potential, which is what the Falcons are doing with everyone but Kroy Biermann and Osi Umenyiora. Or you can add veteran pieces who you know can get you those sacks. I prefer the former option because it tends to be cheaper and the upside can be worth it, but maybe you do not.
Debate!
