Greetings, Falcoholics.
I'm back in action after my week-long hiatus spent covering SEC Media Days in the scenic city of Hoover, Ala. and boy, was that interesting. I saw the Johnny Manziel circus. I saw Jadeveon Clowney being, well, Jadeveon Clowney. I even had a Jason Kirk sighting!
But one of the more interesting (and Falcons-related) bits of knowledge I picked up from my week at the Wynfrey Hotel came from the mouth of Bulldogs senior tight end Arthur Lynch during a somewhat low-key interview session with the UGA beat writers.
Lynch, who hails from Massachusetts (near Dave's corner of the world), proposed an interesting hypothetical situation involving Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray and our own beloved Matty Ice:
"People love the Falcons, but I think if Aaron Murray and Matt Ryan walked into a restaurant in Atlanta, more people would go up to Murray and ask for his picture than Ryan."
Welp.
Given that SEC Media Days played host to thousands of reporters and even warranted an on-site ESPNU set, Lynch's assessment is certainly not out of the realm of possibility. And if this supposed restaurant was located in Athens, I would definitely place by bets on Murray.
But in Atlanta, I think it might be more of a toss-up. People love their Dawgs, but you also have the Georgia Tech students who (understandably) might not follow college football too closely. You have the urban-bohemian folks of Midtown and Little Five Points. You also have all those northern transplants that follow pro sports in lieu of college.
And as any Atlanta fan would surely know, the Falcons have a devout following among the city proper's many inhabitants. And if you work and live in the shadow of the Georgia Dome, I think you gotta hedge your bets on people recognizing Ryan more quickly.
But who am I to say? Sound off on who you think is more well-known in the ATL.
