Falcons on the Bubble

With training camp soon to begin, let's examine the players who, with a stellar camp performance, could lock up a roster spot.

The beginning of training camp is an optimistic time for fans and players alike. Fans are eager to see the team's offseason moves realized, and young players are eager to make their mark on the team. Unfortunately, the process of narrowing down the roster to the final 53 can be brutal, and many spots are already secured by established veteran players. But, there's always a chance that younger players can pleasantly surprise the coaching staff and land on the 53-man roster.

The players I consider to be "on the bubble" heading into training camp are cornerback Peyton Thompson, who impressed in camp in 2012 and spent last season on the practice squad; linebacker Brian Banks, whose work ethic and maturity havr made an impression on coaches, teammates and fans; and receiver Rashad Evans has a decent chance to lock up one of the spots previousky occupied by Kevin Cone or Drew Davis.

As far as veteran players whose spots may not be secure, the primary name that comes to mind is Dominique Franks, who was cut last season and later re-signed with the team. Franks was praised by head coach Mike Smith for his play at safety last season, and his versatility in the defensive backfield may be enough to earn him a spot on the final roster.

Which players do you see as being "on the bubble" as we look toward training camp?
